WASHINGTON (June 18, 2025) – Howard University senior journalism major
Sareyah Rudd rolls on with another Senior Spotlight, featuring two-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Champion and William V. Campbell Award Finalist
Terrance Hollon (Cleveland).
Q: How did you first get introduced to football?
A: I was introduced to football by my uncle when I was six years old. I actually started playing tackle football with the 8–9-year-old age group since there was not a team for six-year-olds and I had the size to compete with the older kids.
Q: Describe the moment when you received your offer to play for Howard football.
A: I remember sitting on the couch with my mom when I got a call from Coach
Larry Scott (Howard football head coach). He offered me on the spot—it was a true blessing and a moment I will never forget.
Q: Why Howard?
A: Howard gave me the best opportunity to excel both in the classroom and on the football field. It felt like the right place for me to grow as a student-athlete and as a man.
Q: What were your initial goals when entering Howard? What are your proudest academic and athletic accomplishments?
A: My main goals coming into Howard were to graduate and earn a shot to play at the next level.
Academically, being named a finalist for the William V. Campbell Award—often called the Academic Heisman—was a huge honor.
Athletically, my proudest moment was winning the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Championship.
Q: What change have you seen in yourself from your freshman year to now at Howard, personally and/or athletically?
A: From freshman year to now, I have learned how to handle adversity and stay solution focused. Both on and off the field, I have grown into someone who does not back down from challenges—I find a way to overcome them.
Q: Favorite all-time athlete and why?
A: My all-time favorite athlete is
LeBron James (NBA Champion), hands down, because we are from the same state and I grew up watching him play for my hometown team.
Beyond basketball, the impact he has made on his community and youth is what truly makes him my favorite.
Q: What kept you motivated throughout college?
A: My motivation came from my background—wanting to be more than a statistic and striving to provide for my family and friends back home. That purpose kept me going every day.
Q: What is your favorite Howard University memory?
A: My favorite memory at Howard was playing in the Celebration Bowl. It was a surreal experience and something I will carry with me forever.
Q: What are your plans post-graduation?
A: I am planning on returning to school to my further education and continue building toward my long-term goals.
Q: What advice would you give future Bison?
A: Stay focused on your goals and always remember your "why." That purpose will guide you through any challenge you face at Howard and beyond.
