WASHINGTON (April 9, 2025) – Howard University women's lacrosse team returned to Greene Stadium Wednesday morning where they dropped a 14-3 decision to Saint Francis (SFU).
HU was unable to get into an offensive rhythm throughout the day, taking only 10 shots while committing 21 turnovers.
SFU (5-8, 3-3 NEC) held a 4-0 advantage after one and added two more scores in the second period, 6-0.
With more than six minutes before intermission, rookie
Kyla Newkirk (Durham, N.C.) got HU on the board with an unassisted goal, 6-1.
Saint Francis posted two more goals before intermission; thus, taking a commanding 8-1 lead into halftime.
After the break, SFU extended its advantage to seven, 9-1, until freshman
Leah Croom (Miami) found graduate
Sawyer Walker (Magnolia, Del.) for the Bison's second goal of the day, 9-2.
SFU closed out the period with two more goals and took an 11-2 lead into the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, SFU tallied three more scores before third-year Bison
Chase Coleman (Houston) finished the scoring for both squads, 14-3.
Croom produced six ground balls and two goals while Walker notched four goals, two ground balls and a score.
Freshman
Taylor Williams (West Chester, Pa.) netted eight saves in a losing effort.
Brooke Lacey led the Red Flash with five points (four goals & an assist) and a pair of controls in the victory.
Howard's next game is Saturday (April 12) against Le Moyne College at 11 a.m.
