HAMPTON, Va. (April 5, 2025) – Howard University men's tennis squad overcame an early match deficit to take down rival Hampton, 4-3, in Hampton, Va.
With the win, HU earned its first road win of the season (1-4) while snapping its four-match slide.
Graduate
Hassimiyou Dieng (Dakar, Senegal) and sophomore
Kendrick Lash (Winston-Salem, N.C.) won their doubles match, knocking off Hampton's Benedict Badza and Benjamin Mwanza in the No. 3 spot, 6-4.
Sophomores
Michael Major Jr (Nassau, Bahamas) and
Mitchell Yon (Queens, N.Y.) represented Bison Nation as the top doubles match but dropped a hard-fought contest to the Pirates' Yanozie Amadike and Donte Armbrister, 7-6 [7-3].
Hampton (4-12) won the third doubles contest; thus, taking a 1-0 match lead into singles competition.
Howard rebounded in singles play, winning four tough matches against the Pirates.
Dieng and D.C. native
Daniel Dunac won their respective matches in three sets while Yon and freshman standout
Kaosie Nwokedi (Charlotte, N.C.) earned straight set victories.
On April 8, Howard continues its road swing in Annapolis, Md., at Navy. Match time at 2 p.m.
