Senior Spotlight: The Grad Edition…Featuring Amanda Ifeanyichukwu

A sit down with the Texas native

WASHINGTON (April 22, 2025) – Howard University Department of Athletics opens this year's Senior Spotlight series with a grad edition, featuring junior marketing major Kasey Napper catching up with graduate student Amanda Ifeanyichukwu (The Woodlands, Texas) from the women's volleyball team.

Q: What made you choose Howard University and how has your experience lived up to your expectations?
A: Howard is an esteemed university and The Mecca of black excellence. I knew it would be the best place for me to grow and achieve my professional goals. I had a great experience here and the relationships I made on and off the court are some I will never forget.

Q: What is something unique about your coaching staff that really impacted you?
A: The coaching staff was very supportive of me coming in as a transfer. They took my academics as seriously as me, which is rare to find in the world of collegiate athletics. I will always appreciate them, taking a chance on me and allowing me to finish out my volleyball career on such a positive note.

Q: How has being part of the Howard Volleyball team shaped you—both as a student-athlete and a person?
A: Being a Howard volleyball player showed me that I am more than just an athlete. My teammates were my support system and they instilled a confidence in me to excel the way I did. I got to play for something bigger than myself and the opportunity we had to inspire the next generation of young, black athletes was one I will never forget.

Q: What is your favorite memory from your time on the team?
A: My favorite memory was the 2023 MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Tournament. We beat Delaware State to advance to the next round and it was the epitome of a team win. We had the best dance party in the locker room afterwards. It is a fondest memory with the program.

Q: What is next for you after graduation?
A: I am working on applying to medical school to earn my MD and become a physician.
