STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (April 19, 2025) – Howard University women's lacrosse team dropped its road finale at Wagner College (WC), 16-6, in Staten Island, N.Y.
WC (7-6, 7-1 NEC) pounced on the Bison early, scoring nine first quarter goals while taking a commanding 9-1 lead into the second period. Second-year Bison
Layla Collins (Houston) scored HU's first goal in the opening period.
Howard turned up the intensity on defense, allowing only two scores in the second quarter.
After intermission, the Bison notched three goals from graduate
Sawyer Walker (Magnolia, Del.), junior
Tea Vasquez (Oakland, Calif.) and newcomer
Leah Croom (Miami). Walker also finished the afternoon with 10 draw controls.
In the fourth, Vasquez and freshman
Adriyana Garrison (Wilmington, N.C.) closed out HU's scoring with a goal each.
Defensively,
Kendall Barker (Columbus, Ohio) caused a pair of turnovers while rookie goalie
Taylor Williams (West Chester, Pa.) racked up 10 saves in the loss.
Ella Marino led the Seahawks with seven points (four goals & three assists), two ground balls and two caused turnovers in the win.
Howard (1-13, 1-7 NEC) returns to Greene Stadium for its final home game of the season Saturday (April 26) against the LIU Sharks. The matchup will also serve as Senior Day, with the opening draw set for noon.
