HONOLULU (February 27, 2025) – Howard University softball team dropped the Outrigger Invite opener against the host, Hawaii (UH), 3-0.
Hawaii (11-6) got on the board first with an RBI-single to right center, 1-0.
After allowing a run in the opening frame, grad transfer pitcher
Ameenah Ballenger (Lansdown, Pa.) settled in, tossing three consecutive scoreless innings to keep the Bison close.
UH created separation in the fifth with a two-run blast over the center wall, 3-0.
MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Preseason Pitcher of the Year junior
Julia Holt (Tucson, Ariz.) came off the bench, throwing a scoreless inning in the sixth while striking out two batters.

Merci Hart (Los Angeles) and
Angel Riggins (San Diego) and rookie
Lauryn Jones (Denton, Texas) each registered a hit in the loss.
Addison Kostrencich delivered a complete-game shutout win for Hawaii, pitching seven innings with five Ks.
HU (4-9) takes on Washington Thursday (Feb. 27) at 6 p.m. (ET) / 1 p.m. (HT).
