WASHINGTON (February 21, 2025) – Howard University men's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 contest to Mount St. Mary's (MSM) at the WTEF (Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's) East Capitol Campus.
HU (2-4) entered Friday's showdown shorthanded, missing All-MEAC selection
Marcel Dawson (Columbus, Ga.).
With the Bison down a man, MSM (3-3) took a 2-0 lead into singles play.
In singles competition, sophomore
Mitchell Yon (Queens, N.Y.) and reigning MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Player and Rookie of the Week newcomer
Kaosie Nwokedi (Charlotte, N.C.) won their respective matchups in three sets.
Second-year Bison
Michael Major, Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas) served in the top spot, defeating the Mount's Akarsh Gaonkar in straight sets (6-3, 6-3).
Mount St. Mary's went on to win the other two singles contests to clinch the match victory.
Howard has a substantial break, not playing again until March 2 against Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, Fla.
