Bison welcome Hawks for Senior Day

WASHINGTON (February 16, 2025) – Howard University men's basketball team returns to The Burr Monday (Feb. 17), welcoming Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) for Senior Day. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m.

UMES (4-20, 0-8 MEAC) is coming off a 75-63 home loss to Norfolk State Saturday (Feb. 15) for its ninth straight setback. The Hawks were led by Evan Johnson and Kyrell Shaw, who each scored 21 points.
 
HOWARD
 
Saturday (Feb. 15), freshman guard Blake Harper (Washington) scored a team-high 18 points and graduate forward Cameron Shockley-Okeke (Norwalk, Conn.) added 17 points, but it was not enough as the Bison fell to Delaware State, 90-69, at Memorial Hall.
 
WHEN THE TWO LAST MET
 
On Feb. 10, Shockley-Okeke and senior guard Marcus Dockery (Washington) each scored 18 points to help the Bison pull away to a 77-57 win over UMES) inside the Hytche Center.
 
The Hawks were led Shaw, who led all scorers with 25 points.
 
SERIES RECORD
 
Howard defeated UMES, 77-57, (February 10, 2025) in Princess Anne, Md., for its fifth straight in the series. The Hawks last win was 82-73 in Princess Anne, Md. (Jan. 9, 2022). Howard leads the series, 26-15, dating back to 2004.

UMES is coached by Cleo Hill, Jr. (NCCU), who is his first season. The Bison are led by Kenneth Blakeney (Duke, '95) who is in his sixth season and has led the Bison to two straight MEAC Tournament titles and NCAA appearances.

Harper has established himself as one of the top freshmen in the country, being named MEAC Rookie of the Week for a record-setting 14 time this season while winning MEAC Player of the Week twice this season…Harper is one of a handful of Division I players to have recorded a triple-double this season…Harper has recorded four double-doubles this season while scoring 30 or more points three times, including a career-high 35 points versus Hampton (Feb. 1)…Harper has reached double figures in all but two games...Dockery is quietly having his best all-around season in a Bison uniform, continuing to be the premier long ball shooter in the conference for the third straight season…Dockery leads the conference in three-point shooting percentage and three-pointers made per game…Dockery has flourished in other areas of his game, including shooting a career-best 49-percent from the field, 42-percent from downtown and 84-percent from the charity stripe…Dockery is scheduled to set a new career high...Dockery has also reached double figures in all but two games...Dockery, who is a member of the 1,000-point club, currently ranks third on the school all-time list for three pointers made in a career behind Charles "CJ" Williams and Ron Williamson…Shockley-Okeke has reached double figures in scoring in eight-of-the-last-nine games…The Bison are averaging almost 18 assists per game and limiting opponents to 31-percent shooting from the three-point line…A nemesis for Howard has been the turnover where they are surrendering 18 points a contest off their miscues…Howard has now played with 12 different starting lineups, the most in the past 10 years…The 11 blocked shots by Taiwo was the second most in school history behind Grady Livingston, who set the school record with 12 blocks during 1993-94 season.
