UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (February 15, 2025) – Howard University men's tennis team took down inner city rival UDC (University of District of Columbia), 5-1, at Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro, Md.
Howard grabbed the upper hand early in the match, winning two-out-of-three in doubles play.
Senior
Marcel Dawson (Columbus, Ga.) and newcomer
Kaosie Nwokedi defeated UDC's Sebastiano Palma and Elouan Quenginer, 6-4.
Senior
Daniel Dunac (Washington) and second-year Bison
Mitchell Yon (Queens, N.Y.) knocked off the Firebirds' Oskar Karos and Ghali Ouajahat Filali, 6-3.
In singles competition, Nwokedi served in the No. 2 spot where he won in straight sets over Palma (6-3, 6-2).
Dunac also won in straight sets, taking down Ouajahat (6-3, 6-4).
Sophomores
Michael Major, Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas) and
Kendrick Lash (Winston-Salem, N.C.) won their respective singles matches in three sets.
UDC's (1-2) lone match point came by default.
HU (2-3) plays Mount St. Mary's Friday (Feb. 21) before an eight-day break between matches.
