WASHINGTON (February 11, 2025) – Howard University women's lacrosse team dropped a tough road match to crosstown rival American (AU), 18-7.
Graduate attacker
Sawyer Walker (Magnolia, Del.) and reigning Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week midfielder
Leah Croom (Miami) each tallied three goals. Walker also racked up eight draw controls and an assist in the loss.
AU pounced on the Bison early, taking an 8-1 advantage after one. Croom got HU on the board at the 9:27 mark.
Howard outshot American in the second frame, 9-3, and pulled with five before intermission, 10-5. Walker led the charge with a pair of goals.
American regained the momentum after halftime, scoring six unanswered goals in the third while taking a double-digit lead into the fourth, 16-5.
Refusing to go away, the Bison added two more scores from Croom and Sawyer before falling to the Eagles, 18-7.
Senior attacker
Marley Rhymes (Coatesville, Pa.) scored on a free position shot in the second quarter.
Freshman goalie
Madeline Willocks (Freeport, N.Y.) notched a match-high 13 saves.
Maddy Spratt led the Eagles (1-1) with six points (three goals & three assists) and three draw controls.
Saturday (Feb. 15), HU (0-2) goes to Baltimore to face UMBC. Match time is scheduled for noon.
