WASHINGTON (February 1, 2025) – Howard University women's swimming & diving team dominated crosstown rival Catholic, 184-49, on Senior Day inside Burr Gym Pool.
HU finished the regular season on a two-meet win streak.
Collectively, the Bison took home 13 gold medals.
The 200 Medley Relay squad of senior
Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas), junior
Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) and sophomores
Chanice Posada (Houston) and
Myeisha Sharrieff (Bermuda) opened the afternoon with a victory, recording a time of 1:44.47.
Individually, Thompson earned first place in the 200 IM (2:12.42) and 100 Breast (1:07.29).
Nwaeze, senior
Jorden Hill (Birmingham, Ala.) and graduate
Isabella Fountain (White Plains, N.Y.) secured first (51.14), second (55.34) and third (55.48), respectively, in the 100 Free.
Posada and fellow classmate
Summer McKoy (Pikesville, Md.) locked up the top two spots, finishing first (58.28) and second (1:01.15), respectively, in the 100 Back.
Third-year Bison
Skylar Debnam (Chandler, Ariz.) claimed gold in the 200 Free (2:00.14) and 500 Free (5:21.64).
Junior
Kali Garcia (Altamonte, Fla.) and sophomore
Iala Cropper (Rochester, N.Y.) finished first (10:58.33) and third (11:18.00), respectively, in the 1000 Free.
Senior
Kelsey Roberson (West Orange, N.J.) and sophomore
Jasmine Morgan (Chicago) took gold (24.55) and silver (24.82), respectively, in the 50 Free.
Junior
Samyra Benoit (Santa Clarita, Calif.) and rookies
Seannia Norville-Smith (Nassau, Bahamas) and
Dallas Young (Raleigh, N.C.) swept the podium, placing first (59.00), second (59.98) and third (1:01.01), respectively, in the 100 Fly.
Morgan, Nwaeze, Roberson and freshman
Gabrielle Vickles (El Dorado, Trinidad & Tobago) wrapped up the meet with a win in the 200 Free Relay (1:38.42).
On the board, senior
Jordynn Connell (Flower Mound, Texas) came away victorious in the 1-meter (239.35 points) and 3-meter (199.60 points) dives.
During the meet, Howard Director of Swimming & Diving
Nicholas Askew and the staff recognized 11 Bison overall, including five on the women's side, for their hard work and dedication to the program: Connell; Hill; Roberson; Thompson and manager
Gabrielle Rose.
On Feb. 19-22, Howard goes to Geneva, Ohio for the Northeast Conference Championships.
