DELAND, Fla. (November 19, 2025) — Graduate guard
Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) poured in a game-high 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double, but the Howard University men's basketball team could not overcome a slow start offensively, falling, 64-60, to Stetson in a nonconference game at the Credit Union Arena at Edmunds Center.
The Bison shot a frigid 22-percent (5-of-22) from the floor in the first 20 minutes, including a 1-for-11 performances from the three-point line.
Harris, a 6-foot-4 graduate guard, put the team on his back and carried them through the first 20 minutes. Despite his efforts, Howard (2-3) still trailed by 10 at intermission, 31-21. The Hatters used a 16-0 run through the first 10 minutes to take an 18-point lead. It was the play of Harris that helped his team reduce the lead at the half.
In the second half, the Bison used their defense get them back in the game.
Freshman guard
Jeremiah Johnson (Potomac, Md.), senior guard
Ose Okojie (Brampton, Canada), who continues to play well, and some late scoring from junior guard
Alex Cotton (Carrollton, Texas) helped fuel a Howard rally that erased the deficit and cut it to a one-possession game, 62-60, with 17 ticks on the clock.
But the Hatters (2-3), who led the entire game, had an answer for each run during the Bison's comeback attempts. Every time Howard would get within striking distance, Stetson would repel their attempts with a basket or free throws.
Cotton, who had missed the Alcorn State game with illness, struggled early. The 6-foot-6 junior transfer from North Texas State is the team's second leading scorer behind Harris. But the sharpshooter missed his first nine shots from the field, including all four of his attempts from beyond the arc where he specializes.
Cotton found his range and nailed a big three pointer to whittle the lead, 62-60. But Stetson got a basket from Collin Kuhn that closed out the scoring and sent the Bison to defeat.
In addition to his double-double, Harris had a steal and a block. Johnson chipped in with a career-high nine points and Okojie added seven points and seven rebounds.
Stetson was led by Kuhl with a team-high 14 points, James Phillips Jr. (13 points) and Jake Johnson (11 points).
NEXT UP: Howard plays Niagara in the inaugural Brotherhood Run Saturday (Nov. 22) inside Cameron Indoor Stadium at 4 p.m. The game will be carried on the ACC Network.
