WASHINGTON – Howard women's soccer held on for a 3–2 win over conference opponent Delaware State Sunday afternoon at Greene Stadium. The Bison improved to 5‑4‑2 overall (3‑0‑1 NEC), extending their win streak to three while the Hornets fell to 3‑7‑3 (1‑3‑1).
Reigning NEC Co-Player of the Week,
Gabriella Garcia-Terrell, opened the scoring early with a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute. The Virginia native doubled Howard's advantage in the 30th minute, converting a PK into a 2–0 lead before halftime.
Shortly after the break,
Demi Owens extended the lead to 3–0 with a composed finish assisted by
Maya Blackston.
DSU fought back late in the second half, scoring twice in a five-minute span to make it 3–2. The sudden charge induced Howard's defense to tighten the reins.
Howard held the edge in multiple stat categories, outshooting Delaware State 20–7, including a 14-7 advantage in shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper
Sienna Hamilton-Grein recorded four saves in the victory. Leading the way offensively, Garcia-Terrell paced Howard with four shots (three on goal), followed by
Demi Owens with three.
The Bison hit the road to face Le Moyne on Thursday, October 9th, at 2 PM.
