Men’s Soccer Falls to Lakers on the Road

Bison held scoreless in physical matchup at Mercyhurst

ERIE, Pa. (October 5, 2025) – On Sunday afternoon, the Howard University men's soccer team fell, 3-0, to Mercyhurst (MC) at Saxon Stadium in a match where a pair of penalty kicks and a second-half shot made the difference.

Howard held their own against Mercyhurst's early pressure in the first half, staying organized defensively, with Ireal Wyze-Daly (Ontario, Canada) coming up with multiple key saves to keep the match scoreless.

The Lakers broke the stalemate in the 42nd minute after being awarded a penalty kick, gaining a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

After the break, the Bison pushed for the equalizer, putting multiple shots on frame.

Despite their efforts, Mercyhurst doubled its lead in the 79th minute. Just eight minutes later, Howard was whistled for a second foul inside the penalty area, allowing MC's Mario Ganser (Salzburg, Austria) to step up once again and convert his second penalty of the afternoon, sealing the result, 3-0.

Wyze-Daly finished with seven saves on the day. Meanwhile, the Bison offense produced eight shots, including five on goal, led by senior Christian Rufael (Washington).

The Bison will look to regroup and bounce back in their next match as they continue conference play on the road at Central Connecticut State Sunday (Oct. 12) at 2 p.m.
