NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (October 12, 2025) – Howard University men's soccer earned its first NEC win of the season with a 3-0 road victory over Central Connecticut State (CCSU) Sunday afternoon.
The result moved the Bison to 2-9-1 overall (1-3-0 NEC) while the Blue Devils dropped to 0-9-2 (0-3-1 NEC).
After a scoreless opening half, Howard exploded for three goals in the final 25 minutes to take control and clinch the shutout win.
Howard applied consistent pressure throughout the opening half, controlling possession and generating several early chances. In the 13
th minute, sophomore forward
Daniil Kaban (Kharkiv, Ukraine) forced a diving save with a low strike to the right post, setting the tone for the Bison attack. Redshirt freshman midfielder
Naim Robinson (Detroit) followed with a pair of dangerous efforts in the 28
th minute, one saved and another narrowly missing wide, as Howard continued to press the Blue Devils' back line.
Despite outshooting Central Connecticut State and earning multiple corner kicks, the Bison were unable to break through and the teams entered halftime scoreless.
The breakthrough came in the 68
th minute when junior forward
Ian Campbell (Des Moines, Iowa) came off the bench and immediately made an impact, finishing a low cross from Kaban to put the Bison on top, 1-0. The goal marked Campbell's first career score as a Bison.
Howard doubled its advantage in the 80
th minute as Kaban found the back of the net off an assist from Robinson, 2-0.
Just minutes later, Campbell struck again, this time in the 85
th minute, to complete his first career brace in a HU uniform and seal the match, 3-0.
Behind a composed defensive effort and several key saves from redshirt sophomore goalie
Liam Keiller (Gaithersburg, Md.), the Bison finished with a 3-0 shutout over Central Connecticut State. In goal, the Maryland native earned the clean sheet with three saves across 90 minutes of action.
Howard held a slight edge in total shots, 8–7, and placed six on frame compared to three for the Blue Devils.
Both teams earned five corner kicks while the Bison committed nine fouls to CCSU's eight.
Each goalkeeper finished with three saves in a tightly contested matchup that saw Howard capitalize on its second-half opportunities to secure the win.
Howard returns to action Thursday (Oct. 16) at 7 p.m., when it hosts Chicago State at Greene Stadium.
