WASHINGTON — Howard women's soccer (7-4-3, 5-0-2 NEC) continued its strong conference form with a 1–0 victory over New Haven (0-9-1, 0-6-1 NEC) on Wednesday afternoon at Greene Stadium. The result keeps the Bison unbeaten in conference play and extends their home winning streak to three.
The difference came early, as junior forward
Samantha James (Herndon, Va.) found the back of the net in the 15th minute. James capitalized on a loose ball in the box and calmly slotted it past the New Haven goalkeeper for her second goal of the season.
From there, Howard controlled possession and tempo, creating multiple chances while keeping the Chargers pinned in their defensive half. Defensively, the Bison stayed organized and limited New Haven's looks at goal, with goalkeeper
Trinity Knox (Atlanta, Ga.) making the necessary stops to record the shutout.
Howard outshot New Haven 16–11 and held a slight edge in shots on goal and corner kicks, showcasing balanced play on both sides of the ball.
The Bison were led by James' early strike, while
Demi Owens (Teaneck, N.J.) and
Asia Mickens-Perez (Upper Marlboro, Md.) each registered three shots. Knox's composure in goal anchored the back line to the third consecutive clean sheet.
Howard returns to action Sunday, October 19, at 1 p.m., when the Bison travel to Chicago State for another NEC matchup.
