WASHINGTON, D.C. – Howard women's soccer played to a 0–0 draw against Stonehill on Sunday afternoon at Greene Stadium in Northeast Conference action. The result moved the Bison to 6–4–3 overall and 4–0–2 in NEC play, while the Skyhawks fell to 2–8–3 (2–3–1 NEC).
Howard generated the game's first quality chance in the 10th minute when
Samantha James (Herndon, Va.) fired a shot from the top of the box that was turned away by the Stonehill goalkeeper. The Skyhawks responded with sustained pressure, recording five first-half shots, but
Trinity Knox (Atlanta) stood tall in goal, making a flurry of save, including back-to-back stops in the 17th minute, keeping the match level. The Bison created a pair of late opportunities through
Mia Young (Sunrise, Fla.) and
Adora Nwosu (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), but both attempts sailed just wide as the teams entered halftime deadlocked at 0–0.
After the break, the Bison continued to press forward, creating the best scoring opportunities of the half when
Alauna Rutland (Fairfax, Va.) nearly broke the deadlock with a shot that struck the crossbar in the 57th minute, then followed moments later with another attempt that was saved by the Stonehill keeper. Howard maintained its attacking rhythm, with
Imani Kissi (Dublin, Ohio) forcing another save in the 73rd minute and
Jaileen De Freitas (Miramar, Fla.) narrowly missing high from distance. Stonehill threatened late, but Knox made several key stops down the stretch to preserve the clean sheet as the match ended in a scoreless draw.
Howard was led offensively by Rutland, who paced the attack with three shots and one on target, while James, Nwosu, and Kissi each added a shot on goal. Between the posts, Knox recorded seven saves to secure her second clean sheet of the season.
The Bison return to action on Thursday, October 16, when they host NEC newcomer New Haven for Jersey Day at 1 p.m.
