WASHINGTON (January 25, 2025) – Howard University women's tennis team fell in its season opener at crosstown rival Georgetown, 5-2.
Senior
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) and sophomore
Imani Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y.) served as the No. 1 doubles team for HU where they blanked Georgetown's Emily Novikov and Katie Garofolo-Ro, 6-0.
Moments later, junior
Selah Stibbins (Minneapolis) and second-year Bison
Dana Hall (Miami) defeated the Hoyas' Ellen Puzak and Molly Evans, 6-3, and gave HU a 1-0 match lead entering singles play.
In singles competition, sophomore
Ava Chambers (Wellington, Fla.) secured a three-set victory in the No. 3 spot over Garofolo-Ro (6-2, 5-7, 7-5).
Hall extended her matchup to three sets, but ultimately, fell to Georgetown's Carolyn Schaefer (6-7, 7-5, 0-1 [10-6]).
The other four singles matchups were decided in favor of the Hoyas.
Sunday (Feb. 2), the women's squad goes to Bucknell. First serve is set for 12:30 p.m.
