BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (January 22, 2025) – The Northeast Conference (NEC) uncovered its men's and women's swimming & diving weekly honors where Howard University saw a trio of Bison recognized for their outstanding performances. The announcement came Wednesday.
Sophomore
Chanice Posada (Houston) and third-year Bison
Taj Benton (Baltimore) claimed NEC Women's and Men's Swimmer of the Week, respectively, while senior
Zay Swilley (Bradley, Ill.) took home Diver of the Week.
Posada guided the 400 medley relay squad to victory at Towson (Jan. 15), swimming leadoff with a 57.46 mark. In the quad meet at VMI (Jan. 18), the Houston native produced a NEC-best 26.05 time in the 50 backstroke (extracted), which was a CSCAA B-cut mark, while leading the 200 medley relay team to a win. Individually, the sophomore brought home a first place finish in the 100 backstroke (57.53).
Benton won the 100 Fly at VMI, touching in 49.45, which ranks third on the NEC performance list. He followed with a second-place finish in the 200 Fly, clocking a 1:52.62 (fifth in NEC). The Baltimore product also took part in the Bison's 200 Free Relay and 200 Medley Relay victories with times of 1:23.53 and 1:31.18, respectively. His extracted time of 23.02 in the 50 Fly marked the fourth-best time in the conference this season.
At VMI, Swilley swept a field of thirteen competitors, winning with scores of 245.10 in the 1-meter dive and 265.80 in the 3-meter dive.

Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) each made the NEC Prime Performers list.
Le Moyne's Gabby Williams won NEC Women's Rookie and Diver of the Week while Wagner's Ben McLaughlin earned Men's Rookie of the Week.
Saturday (Feb. 1), HU hosts nearby Catholic for Senior Day. First race is slated for 1 p.m., inside Burr Gym Pool.
