WASHINGTON (September 29, 2024) - Howard University women's soccer team extended its win streak with Sunday afternoon's 2-0 victory over Chicago State.
The conference matchup moved the Bison to 3-4-4 (2-1 NEC) on the season while the Cougars fell 0-9 (0-3 NEC).
A scoreless first half saw 12 shots, five of which came from Howard, the Bison kicked it into high gear in the second half by getting off 11 shots while holding the Cougars to three.
HU's attempts proved fruitful in the 52
nd minute when a free kick taken by
Laila Cowsette (Laurel, Md.) was chipped ahead of a waiting
Mimi Richards (Silver Springs, Md.), who took a shot just high of the Cougar in goal.
The Bison took advantage of another well-placed free kick by Cowsette 11 minutes later. Sailing into the scrummage, the ball fell to
Zoe Moore (Lutz, Fla.) before
Mia Young (Sunrise, Fla.) was able to get a foot on it to place it in the net.
The Cougars managed to get in three shots afterwards with one being on goal – but fell short as the clock ran out.
Newcomer
Gabriella Garcia-Terrell (Centreville, Va.) led the Bison with six shots – two on goal.
Trinity Knox (Atlanta) added two more saves to the season's stats.
The Bison continue conference play Thursday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m., when they travel to Pennsylvania to face the Saint Francis Red Flash.
