Women's Soccer Grabs Road Win at Saint Francis

Bison extend win streak with first road victory of the season

LORETTA, Pa. (October 3, 2024) – Howard University women's soccer team rallied from a halftime deficit, scoring twice in the final 45 minutes to knock off Saint Francis (SFU), 2-1, in Northeast Conference (NEC).

HU (4-4-4, 3-1 NEC) extended its win streak to three while grabbing its first road victory of the season in Loretta, Pa.

Despite outshooting SFU (4-6-2, 2-2 NEC) in the opening frame, 7-3, Saint Francis took a 1-0 halftime lead, thanks to a penalty kick goal from Lauren Pyle.

Moments after intermission, All-NEC selection senior Melea Earley (La Mirada, Calif.) tied the contest, 1-1, with assists from fellow classmate Koa Goodchild (Southampton, Bermuda) and second-year Bison Samantha James (Herdon, Va.).

At the 77-minute mark, newcomer Gabriella Garcia-Terrell (Centreville, Va.), reigning NEC Rookie of the Week, delivered the go-ahead goal, thanks to an assist by DMV native sophomore midfielder Asia Mickens-Perez (Upper Marlboro, Md.), 2-1.

From there, HU shutout Saint Francis while holding the Red Flash to only two shots after halftime.

Howard took 19 shot attempts, compared to SFU only taking five tries. Saint Francis goalie Emma Sawich notched 10 saves in a losing effort.

On Oct. 10, Howard will be back home to host Mercyhurst College for Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., at Greene Stadium.
