WASHINGTON (September 24, 2024) - Howard University men's soccer team marked its second draw of the season Tuesday night in a rainy 1-1 stalemate with George Washington (GW) at Greene Stadium.
The nonconference draw moves the Bison to 0-4-2 on the season while the Revolutionaries dropped 2-6-1 overall.
In his second start of the season,
Mason Christian (Fulton, Md.) put HU on the board in the 24
th minute when the Bison's second shot of the night and first on goal got past GW's keeper Duncan Wegner (Apex, N.C.).
The wet weather conditions added to the physicality of the game, seeing 18 fouls and four yellow cards across 90 minutes.
Trying to extend their lead, a scoring opportunity presented itself on a corner in the 48
th-minute when Wegner bobbled the catch, causing a crescendo to rise through the crowd. The goalie managed to keep it in his grasp before the Bison could get another attack in the box.
The Revolutionaries scored the equalizer with three minutes left in the game, marking the Bison's second stalemate of the season.
HU outshot GW, 14-11, utilizing four shots on goal in comparison to the Revolutionaries' seven.
Liam Keiller (Gaithersburg, Md) notched six saves while facing 11 shots.
The Bison return to the pitch Sunday, September 29 at 3 p.m., when they host Central Connecticut State in their Kid's Day game.
