LONGWOOD, Va. (September 12, 2024) – Howard University women's soccer team closed out its nonconference slate with a draw at Longwood (LU), 2-2.
With the result, HU moved to 1-3-4 entering league play while LU goes to 1-6-2 on the season.
Second-year Bison
Samantha James (Herdon, Va.) got HU on the board first within seven minutes of play, thanks to a corner kick, 1-0.
At the 23-minute mark, senior
Zoe Moore (Lutz, Fla.) and DMV native sophomore
Mimi Richards (Silver Spring, Md.) found rookie
Gabrielle Garcia-Terrell (Centreville, Va.) for her first collegiate goal while giving the Bison a 2-0 lead at halftime.
After the break, LU was aggressive after intermission, outshooting HU, 7-3, in the final 45 minutes of play.
With less than 15 minutes remaining, Longwood scored twice and tied the contest to force a draw, 2-2.
Sophomore goalie
Trinity Knox (Atlanta) finished the night with three saves in the stalemate.
On Sept. 19, Howard concludes its road swing, facing off against Stonehill College Skyhawks in its conference opener. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m., at Skyhawk Field.
