WASHINGTON (September 1, 2024) – Howard University women's soccer team dropped its first home contest of the season, falling to UMBC, 2-0, at Greene Stadium.

Despite the setback, HU (1-2-2) outshot the Retrievers, 15-13, led by All-NEC selection Melea Earley (La Mirada, Calif.) with four shot attempts.

Meghan McKye put UMBC on the board within five minutes of play, 1-0, thanks to assists from Payton Schenning and Natsha Munro.

Moments before intermission, the Retrievers extended their lead with a goal by Aby Joseph, 2-0.

HU came out aggressive after halftime, outshooting the Retrievers, 10-2, in the final 45 minutes, but unable to breakthrough.

Rookie Gabrielle Garcia-Terrell (Centreville, Va.) took three shots while the reigning two-time Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week Mimi Richards (Silver Spring, Md.) had two shots on goals in a losing effort.

Sophomore goalie Trinity Knox (Atlanta), the 2023 NEC Goalkeeper of the Year, made her season debut, finishing with four saves.
