BALTIMORE (August 26, 2024) – Howard University men's soccer team suffered a tough road loss at UMBC, 3-2.
Despite being down multiple times throughout the night, HU battled the talented Retrievers.
DMV native graduate
Peter Gansallo (Bowie, Md.) and rookie
Daniil Kaban (Kharkiv, Ukraine) each registered their first collegiate goals in a losing effort.
UMBC (1-0-1) got the board first nearly 20 minutes into the contest, 1-0, but Gansallo responded with an unassisted goal and tied the match at intermission, 1-1.
After the break, Giuseppe Indelicato put UMBC back on top at the 63-minute mark, 2-1, but the Bison refused to go away.
At the 69-minute mark, two-time All-NEC selection senior forward
Bryson Baker (Ellicott City, Md.) found Kaban for the match-tying goal, 2-2.
With less than 10 minutes remaining, Alek Wroblewski scored the go-ahead goal, thanks to an assist from Ismailcan Usta, to give UMBC the victory.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Liam Keiller (Gaithersburg, Md.) produced six saves on the night.
HU has nearly a two-week hiatus before facing George Mason in Fairfax, Va. (Sept. 7). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
