RICHMOND, Va. (August 25, 2024) – Howard University women's soccer team fell on the road at Richmond (UR), 1-0, despite outshooting the Spiders, 15-9.
With the setback, HU dropped its first decision of the young season (1-1-2) while UR remained unblemished (2-0-1).
Rookie forward
Gabrielle Garcia-Terrell (Centreville, Va.) led the attack with a match-leading six shot attempts (three on goal).
Abby Dillon got UR on the board, thanks to assists from Kiley Fitzgerald and Kelly Hutton, and held a 1-0 advantage at the 12-minute mark.
HU had several opportunities throughout to even the score, taking 10 shots after intermission, but unable to find the back of the net.
All-NEC selection senior forward
Melea Earley (La Mirada, Calif.) and reigning Northeast Conference Player of the Week sophomore forward
Mimi Richards (Silver Spring, Md.) recorded two shots each.
Richmond goalie McKenna Dalfonso kept Howard off the board despite facing duress throughout the afternoon, racking up eight saves in the victory.
On Sept. 1, Howard begins its brief two-match home stand versus UMBC on Brison Pride and Faculty Appreciation Day. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., at Greene Stadium.
