WASHINGTON (August 22, 2024) - Howard University women's soccer came to its second draw of the season with Thursday night's 1-1 stalemate with A10 opponent George Mason (GMU).
Six Bison made shot attempts with senior
Zoe Moore (Lutz, Fla.) and team-leading scorer
Mimi Richards (Silver Spring, Md.) heading the charge with four each.
Richards, reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week, continued her strong start to the season by opening the scoring with a shot straight down the center.
HU kept the pressure on in the second half as they got 11 shots off threatening to extend the lead.
Just shy of four minutes left in the match, GMU (0-1-2) sophomore Madyson Taylor (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) put the Patriots on the board when she sailed a shot from 15 yards, just out the reach of Howard's keeper.
First-year keeper
Nya-Grace Young (Ontario, Canada) made her collegiate debut, spending all 90 minutes in the net for the Bison. Facing 17 shots, the Canadian recorded seven saves.
HU outshot the Patriots, 16-12, while utilizing six corners to GMU's two.
Howard (1-0-2) takes on Richmond in nonconference action Sunday (Aug. 25). Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
