Bennett Takes Sixth at the NCAA Championships

UK native saves best for last curtain call of the 2024 outdoor season

EUGENE, Ore. (June 7, 2024) – On the national stage, Howard University graduate Samuel Bennett (Langdon Hills, United Kingdom) saved his best performance in the 110-meter hurdles final round at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., hosted by the University of Oregon.

Bennett wrapped up the season with a sixth-place finish, clocking in at a personal best (13.45), while becoming the first Bison in more than 20 years to score points at the national stage. Additionally, he earned All-American first team honors, becoming the first men's All-American since Bison standout and Howard Director of Track & Field David Oliver (2003).

Nebraska's Darius Luff won the short hurdle national title with a new personal best (13.19), edging out Auburn's Ja'Kobe Tharp by one-hundredths (.001) of a second (13.20). Texas A&M's Ja'Qualon Scott took home the bronze medal, posting a 13.27 mark (personal best).

Coach Oliver wrapped up his seventh season with the men's track & field program, leading the squad to runner-up finishes during the indoor and outdoor seasons.

The program looks to build on this year's success as they look to compete for conference titles during the 2024-25 campaign.
