Women’s Track & Field Claims Third Straight MEAC Outdoor Championship

Bison rally on the final day to take home another league title

NORFOLK, Va. (May 8, 2024) – Howard University women's track & field team won its third consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Championship, held on the campus of Norfolk State University (NSU) in Norfolk, Va.
 
HU registered 221 points thru 21 events, rallying on Day Three to take down the host Spartans.
 
Howard Director of Track & Field David Oliver was named MEAC Women's Most Outstanding Coach after seven first place finishes on Championship Wednesday.
 
Graduate Kailei Collins (Houston) highlighted the afternoon with three first-place finishes. The Houston native won a pair of individual races in the 100-meter (11.12) and 200-meter dashes (22.73).
 
Junior Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) also competed in the same events, placing runner up in both races with times of 11.29 (100-meter) and 23.08 (200-meter), respectively.
 
Collins, Pittman and rookies Aiyana Gray-Williams (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Mackenzie Robinson (Ypsilanti, Mich).) took home gold in the 4x100 relay, clocking in at 44.30.
 
Graduate Simone Watkins (Frisco, Texas) and sophomore Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburn, N.C.) represented Bison Nation in the 400-meter hurdles, earning first (57.76) and third (58.75), respectively.
 
Second-year Bison Zoe Turner (Mableton, Ga.) and graduate Cathrina Morris (Auburndale, Fla.) grabbed gold in the 400-meter dash (53.36) and 100-meter hurdles (13.12), respectively.
 
Pittman, Turner, Woodruff and sophomore Sanaa Morris (Bermuda) capped off the day with a victory in the 4x400 relay, recording a 3:40.90 mark.
 
Other noteworthy performance on the track included junior Joslyn Crosby (Bossier City, La.) securing third overall in the 5K run with a 18:23.34 time.
 
In the field, graduate Minyarn Smalls (Cary, N.C.) earned the bronze after throwing nearly 119 feet (36.21 meters) in the javelin.
 
NSU placed runner-up with 199 points, followed by Delaware State with 94.5 points.
 
Norfolk State's Mercyline Kimaiyo claimed MEAC Most Outstanding Runner while teammate Leslie Young took home the league's Most Outstanding Field Performer.
 
On May 22-25, several Bison travel to Lexington, Ky., for the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds.
