NORFOLK, Va. (May 7, 2024) – Howard University men's track & field squad jumped to second place after Day Two of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Championships, held on the campus of Norfolk State University (NSU) in Norfolk, Va.
HU tallied 60 points thru eight scored events, including a pair of first-place finishes.
Graduate
Danree Delancey (Bethel Towns, Westmoreland) won the shot put, tossing nearly 56 feet (16.94 meters) while collecting 10 points for the Bison.
Third-year Bison
Kyle Fisher (Duluth, Ga.) took home the gold, leaping over 25 feet (7.72 meters) in the long jump. Fellow classmate
Sean Wray (Stafford, Va.) also competed in the event, finishing runner-up (7.67meters).
Sophomore
Andre Prince (Windsor, Conn.) claimed second in the hammer, throwing over 168 feet (51.47 meters).
In the decathlon, senior
Ezekiel Hawkins (Lithonia, Ga.) and junior
Eric Brown II (Raleigh, N.C.) earned fourth (5801) and sixth (5250), respectively, while combining for eight points.
On the track, graduate
Ayoade Adebiyi (Virginia Beach, Va.) placed fourth overall (five points) in the 3K steeplechase with a 10:05.14 mark.
Several Bison advanced to Championship Wednesday, highlighted by the 110-meter hurdles squad with four: graduate
Samuel Bennett (Langdon Hills, United Kingdom); seniors
Zachary Hawkins (Lithonia, Ga.) and
Noah Langford (Portsmouth, Va.) and rookie
Otto Laing (Freeport, Bahamas).
Graduate sprinters
Ja'Leak Perry (Atlanta) and
Goba Dan-Princewill (Houston) made the 100-meter dash final, clocking in with prelim times of 10.55 (AQ) and 10.58 (non AQ), respectively.
Other notable Bison reaching the final round included sophomore
Andre McKinney, Jr. (Moreno Valley, Calif.) in the 400-meter dash and fellow classmate
Kobe Hutson (Bridgetown, Barbados) in the 800-meter run.
Norfolk State remains atop the leaderboard with 66 points thru eight events.
HU looks to make another charge on Day Three of the MEAC Outdoor Championships Wednesday (May 8). The action starts 8 a.m., with the men's and women's 5K races.
