DOVER, Del. (April 6, 2024) – Howard University softball team extended its win streak after twinbill sweep at Delaware State (DSU). HU held on to win game one, 6-4, then followed up with a 14-1 victory in five.
GAME 1: HOWARD 6, DELAWARE STATE 4
HU produced six runs on 13 hits, led by sophomore outfielder
Maryn Jordan (San Diego) going a perfect 4-of-4 with two runs scored and a double.
Junior
Kenna Higa (Honolulu) crossed home and put Howard on the board first, 1-0, but DSU responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half to take a 2-1 advantage after one.
After a scoreless second inning, HU regained the upper hand with three runs in the third, 4-2.
Delaware State answered in the fourth with two runs and tied the contest after four innings of play, 4-4.

Iyanna Fortenberry (Richmond, Va.) scored the go-ahead run, thanks to a sac fly from junior
Sidney Fletcher (Whittier, Calif.), 5-4.
Next inning, rookie
Angel Riggins (San Diego) delivered an insurance run with an RBI-double to left center, 6-4.
In DSU's final at-bat, the Lady Hornets had a chance to tie the contest with runners in scoring position, but sophomore
Julia Holt (Tucson, Ariz.) came in and recorded the final three outs to pick up the save.
Sophomore pitcher
Amelia Weber (Montclair, Calif.) grabbed the win in relief, tossing 2.1 innings with four strikeouts.
GAME 2: HOWARD 14, DELAWARE STATE 1 (F/5)
In the nightcap, HU pounded out 14 runs on a season-high 19 hits with nine Bison recording a hit.
Howard took an early 3-0 advantage after one and never looked back.
Next inning, the Bison delivered seven runs on seven hits and widened the gap to double digits after two innings of play, 10-0.
Reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week
Bianca Worthy (Goodyear, Ariz.) scored and extended the margin, 11-0, but DSU's Chandler Martin delivered a solo homer in the fourth to end the shutout, 11-1.
HU closed out its final at-bat with three more runs.
