Sareyah Rudd begins this year's Senior Spotlight series with a graduate edition, featuring two-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Champion
Darrian Brokenburr (Manassas, Va.) from the football team.
Q: How did you first get introduced to football?
A: My grandfather and uncle introduced me to football. They both had me around the game growing up.
Q: Describe the moment when you received your offer to play for Howard football.
A: I was very excited because it was a moment I have been waiting for a long time.
Q: Why Howard?
A: I chose Howard because of its location and my interest to learn more about HBCUs.
Q: What were your initial goals when entering Howard? What are your proudest academic and athletic accomplishments?
A: My initial goals entering Howard was playing a lot in my freshman year, earning my degree and taking advantage of my surroundings. My proudest moments are graduating with an undergraduate degree, pursuing a master's degree and becoming a two-time MEAC Champion.
Q: What change have you seen in yourself from your freshman year to now at Howard, personally and/or athletically?
A: I have seen a change in myself personally, just the overall growth as an individual.
Q: Favorite all-time athlete and why?
A: My all-time favorite athlete is the late
Kobe Bryant (NBA Champion) because of his mentality, that Mamba mentality.
Q: What kept you motivated throughout college?
A: I stayed motivated because of my personal goals while wanting to leave Howard, particularly the football team, in a better place.
Q: What is your favorite Howard University memory?
A: I have two favorite memories. My first memory was defeating North Carolina Central last year at Greene Stadium. My second memory was playing the Cricket Celebration Bowl in Atlanta.
Q: What are your plans post-graduation?
A: My post-graduation plans are finishing my master's degree and continuing my football career at the professional level.
Q: What advice would you give future Bison?
A: The best advice for future Bison is to cherish the moments because you only have four years.
