PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (April 21, 2024) – Howard University women's golf team finished runner-up at the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship, held at the Callaway Gardens Resort (par-70, 6,015 yards) in Pine Mountain, Ga.
Collectively, HU shot 71-over par (911) during the three-day event, including a 314 (+34) in the final round.
Second-year Bison
Morgan Horrell (Dallas) led Howard throughout the weekend, finishing 11-over par (221) in 54 holes of action. For her efforts, she was named to the NEC All-Tournament Team after placing fifth overall.
Rookie
Emily Mayne (Kingston, Jamaica) missed the All-Tournament squad by two strokes, tying for 12
th in the player leaderboard. The Jamaica native shot 229 (+9) in three rounds of play.
Junior
Kendall Jackson (Pearland, Texas) tied for 14
th overall, producing a 230 (+20), followed by fellow classmate
Jada Richardson (Suwanee, Ga.) with a 28-over par (238) performance (t-21
st).
Reigning NEC Rookie of the Year sophomore
Marley Franklin (Los Angeles), who was on pace to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team, withdrew from Sunday's action due to injury. After two rounds, the Los Angeles product was tied for seventh with Horrell.
Sacred Heart (SHU) took home its third straight NEC title (fourth overall) after shooting 299 (+19) in the final round. Overall, the Pioneers recorded an 869 (+29) and won by 42 strokes.
SHU's Margot Rouquette rallied to win the individual medal after an impressive 1-over par effort (71) in the third round. She edged out teammate and reigning NEC Player of the Year Chantal El Chaib by one stroke (213, +3).
HU wraps up the season in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., for the PGA Works Collegiate Championships (May 6-8).
