WASHINGTON (April 20, 2024) – Howard University women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a three-match win streak after knocking off rival Morgan State (MSU), 5-2, at Banneker Recreation Center in D.C.
With the victory, HU (10-9, 4-2 MEAC) locked up the No. 3 seed in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament while earning its second 10-win season in three years.
Howard held an early 1-0 match lead after winning two-out-of-three in doubles competition.
All-MEAC selections junior
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) and
Selah Stibbins (Minneapolis) secured their sixth straight win, topping MSU's Averiana Mitchell and Iva Jankovic, 7-5.
Third-year Bison
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and newcomer
Dana Hall (Miami) defeated the Lady Bears' Aleksandra Evdokimova and Stefania Moysiadi, 6-4, for their fourth consecutive win.
In singles play, junior
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) grabbed her 13
th victory of the season after holding off Morgan State's Lauryn Hall in three sets (4-6, 7-6, 7-5).
Butcher and freshmen
Ava Chambers (Wellington, Fla.) and
Imani Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also picked up singles wins.
On April 25-27, Howard goes to Cary, N.C., for the MEAC Championships.
