NORFOLK, Va. (March 27, 2024) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) revealed its women's track & field weekly awards where Howard University swept both honors. The announcement came Wednesday.
Graduate
Kailei Collins (Houston) won MEAC Track Athlete of the Week while fellow Bison sophomore
Ija Mumford (Winston-Salem, N.C.) took home Field Athlete of the Week.
At the Bob Davidson Team Challenge (March 22-23), Collins finished runner-up in the 100-meter dash with a MEAC-best 11.49 mark, which ranks 23
rd nationally. The Houston native was also part of the 4x100 relay squad, earning silver with a 44.62 time.
For Mumford, she returned to her home state with a victory in the long jump, leaping a conference-best 5.96 meters.
On the men's side, Coppin State graduate Noxroy Wright was named MEAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week while South Carolina State senior Dexter Huff was selected Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
HU is set to compete in a trio of events next weekend: Texas Relays (March 27-30); Raleigh Relays (March 28-30) and Towson Invitational (March 29).
