PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (April 19, 2024) – Howard University women's golf team sits in third place after round one of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship, held at the Calloway Gardens Resort (par-70, 6,015 yards) in Pine Mountain, Ga.
After Day One, HU shot 295 (+15) with all five Bison placing in the top 25.
Second-year Bison
Morgan Horrell (Dallas) and
Marley Franklin (Los Angeles) led the way, holding spots in the top 10. Horrell shot 1-over par (71) with three birdies and tied for fourth overall. For Franklin, the reigning NEC Rookie of the Year produced a 72 (+2) and tied for eighth in the player leaderboard.
Rookie
Emily Mayne (Kingston, Jamaica), who is coming off her first collegiate individual win at the National Women's Collegiate Championship (April 2-3), tied for 13
th after recording a 5-over par (75) performance.
Juniors
Kendall Jackson (Pearland, Texas) and
Jada Richardson (Suwanee, Ga.) each shot 7-over par (77), tying for 21
st overall.
Reigning NEC Champion Sacred Heart led after Day One, shooting 2-over par (282). LIU is six strokes behind the Pioneers (288, +8).
Individually, reigning NEC Player of the Year Chantal El Chaib leads the field after registering a 4-under par (66) performance. LIU's Emily Byrne holds second overall after 18 holes of play (69, -1).
Saturday (April 20), HU plays round two of the NEC Championship. The action starts at 9 a.m.
