Women’s Lacrosse Falls Short to FDU

HU drops 15-5 decision on Senior Day

WASHINGTON (April 13, 2024) – Howard lacrosse fell short to conference foe FDU, 15-5, Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Greene Stadium.

Before the conference matchup, the Bison recognized student-athletes Alexandra Broome (Bensville, Md.), Logan Ford (Charlotte, N.C.), Jaala James (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Zahria Liggans (Detroit), Kayla Rose (Uniondale, N.Y.) and Taylor Worsham (Severn, Md.) in honor of Senior Day.

The Knights started their charge just shy of three minutes into the game when they took advantage of HU being a man-down. The quick shot gave them momentum, putting another in the net 30 seconds later. FDU tacked on two more by the close of the quarter, 4-0.

The Knights continued their lead in the second quarter but back-to-back goals from the Bison stunted the New Jersey opponent. HU marked their first goal with 7:53 left in the second when sophomore Tea Vasquez (Oakland, Calif.) worked her way around and through two defenders to connect with the net, 6-1. Nearly 30 seconds later, the California native assisted leading scorer Quai Skeete-Ridley (New Carrollton, Md.) on the Bison's second goal straight to the net, 6-2.

The sudden surge forced the Knights to reconvene on the sideline. The timeout gave FDU time to readjust, resulting in quick consecutive goals, 8-2. Free position shots in combination with being a man-up aided the Knights in a 10-2 lead. Ford's fast hands in the cage kept the Knights at bay, blocking their chance to pull away with two saves in the frame.

Junior attacker Maya Rhymes (Coatesville, Pa.) made her way from the box to the net when she connected with a pass from Skeete-Ridley, closing the gap, 10-3.

The Knights responded quickly, making their way down the field to an 11-3 lead.

With less than two minutes left in the third, Skeete-Ridley notched her second goal of the day, stopping the clock and the Knights' charge, 13-4.

Sophomore attacker Chase Coleman (Houston) got in on the action when she netted her 13th goal of the season for a 14-5 scoreboard.

The Knights managed to work in one more goal for a 15-5 final.

Next up, the Bison return to Greene Stadium Saturday, April 20, at Noon when they host Le Moyne College in the final home game of the year.
