NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (March 6, 2024) – Howard University women's lacrosse team came up short, falling to Central Connecticut State (CCSU), 14-4, in Northeast Conference (NEC) action.
CCSU scored first, but junior attacker
Marley Rhymes (Coatesville, Pa.) responded quickly with a goal of her own and tied the contest, 1-1.
Central Connecticut State built momentum, scoring four unanswered goals before fifth-year attacker
Quai Skeete-Ridley (New Carrollton, Md.) closed the opening frame with a goal, 5-2.
In the second, CCSU extended its lead with four more goals, 9-2, before Rhymes stopped HU's scoring drought, 9-3. Central Connecticut State's Kaitlin Flynn scored one more time before halftime, 10-3.
HU went into a scoring slump after intermission while the Blue Devils increased its advantage with two goals in the third, 12-3.
In the final frame, rookie midfielder
Cecilia Vitti (Detroit) ended Howard's scoring drought with a goal, but CCSU finished the contest with two scores, 14-4.
Talie Richardson led the Blue Devils with seven draw controls, six points (five goals & one assist) and six ground balls in the victory.
Saturday (March 9), HU returns to Greene Stadium to face Radford in its final nonconference showdown of the year. Match time is scheduled for noon on NEC Front Row.
