ORLANDO, Fla. (March 5, 2024) – Howard University women's tennis team won its lone contest during its annual spring break rodeo, topping Bowling Green (BGU), 5-2, at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
HU dominated throughout, winning all three of its double matches while taking an early 1-0 match lead into singles play.
Third-year Bison
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) and rookie
Imani Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y.) served as the squad's No. 1 doubles team, taking down BGU's Lucy Furness and Hannah Neuman, 6-3.
In singles competition, All-MEAC selection and Florida native
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines) represented Bison Nation in the No. 1 position where she defeated Furness in straight sets (6-1, 6-4).
Pegram, junior
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) and newcomer
Ava Chambers (Wellington, Fla.) each won their respective singles contests in straight sets.
Freshman
Dana Hall (Miami) dropped a hard-fought, three-set matchup to the Falcons' Brynn Chaffee (6-3, 6-7, 10-6).
Wednesday (March 13), HU (3-7) returns to action when they travel to Baltimore to face Loyola (Md.). Match time is set for 3 p.m.
