ORLANDO, Fla. (March 5, 2024) – Howard University men's tennis team opened its annual spring break rodeo with a 5-2 setback against North Carolina A&T State (NCAT) at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
HU took an early match lead after winning two-out-of-three in doubles play.
All-MEAC selections senior
Justin Cadeau (West Orange, N.J.) and junior
Marcel Dawson (Columbus, Ga.) served as the club's top doubles team, defeating NCAT's Esteban Lopez and Lucas Coupo-Moison, 6-0.
Senior
Hassimiyou Dieng (Dakar, Senegal) and newcomer
Mitchell Yon (Queens, N.Y.) held on to knock off the Aggies' Ian Pedersen and Said Akbarov, 6-4.
In singles play, rookie
Michael Major, Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas) was the lone Bison to score after a two-set victory over Coupo-Moison (6-2, 6-4).
NCAT rallied to win the other five singles matches in straight sets.
Wednesday (March 6), the Bison (1-5) take on undefeated Keiser at 11 a.m.
