DOVER, Del. (March 27, 2024) – Delaware State (DSU) pulled away in the first half with seven second-quarter goals to down the Howard University women's lacrosse team, 13-4, in Dover, Del.
DSU got on the board first, but rookie
Cecilia Vitti (Detroit) responded quickly and tied the contest after one, 1-1.
In the second period, HU was unable to slow down the Lady Hornets. Delaware State tallied seven goals and took a commanding 8-2 lead into halftime. Second-year Bison
Tea Vasquez (Oakland, Calif.) scored the lone goal for HU.
Delaware State cooled off after intermission, but outscored Howard in the third, 2-1. Sophomore
Chase Coleman (Houston) found junior
Marley Rhymes (Coatesville, Pa.) for HU's third goal of the evening.
Newcomer
Layla Collins (Houston) scored the Bison's fourth goal in period four, but the Lady Hornets produced three more goals to close out.
Freshman
Jaide Kelly (Gwinnett, Ga.) recorded three draw controls while goalie
Logan Ford (Charlotte, N.C.) registered a pair of saves in the loss.
For DSU, Zahra Gotz led the way with three goals.
The Bison return home to face Wagner College in conference play. The game is scheduled for Saturday, March 30, with a noon start time.
