CARY, N.C. (March 23, 2024) – Howard University women's tennis team picked up its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) win of the season, edging out North Carolina Central (NCCU), 4-3, at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
 
HU (6-8, 1-1 MEAC) grabbed the upper hand early on, winning two-out-of-three in doubles play.
 
Junior 
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) and newcomer 
Imani Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y.) served as the squad's No. 1 doubles team, cruising past NCCU's Lafi Joao and Jade Houston, 6-2.
 
Junior 
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) and sophomore 
Selah Stibbins (Minneapolis) won their third consecutive doubles match, knocking off North Carolina Central's Patricia Palencia and Candice Bernier, 7-5.
 
In singles competition, third-year Bison 
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) competed in the top slot where she defeated the Eagles' Alejandra Hidalgo in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-3).
 
Jean won the first set, 6-1, before Joao retired.
 
Pegram secured her 10
th straight singles win, topping Palencia in consecutive sets (6-1, 6-4).
 
Sunday (March 24), Howard concludes the MEAC Round Up against Norfolk State. First serve is set for noon.
