HIGH POINT, N.C. (March 23, 2024) – Howard University women's track & field grabbed fourth place at the Bob Davidson Team Challenge, hosted by High Point University, after tallying 95 points in the two-day event.
In the field, sophomore
Ija Mumford (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and
Kelis Armstrong (Plano, Texas) took part in the long jump where they placed first (5.96 meters) and sixth (5.50 meters), respectively. Both Bison also competed in the triple jump with Armstrong winning the event (12.02 meters) and Mumford taking third (11.83 meters).
Other notable performances in the field included fifth-year Bison
Erin Hatcher (Silver Spring, Md.) earning fourth in the hammer (54.96 meters).
On the track, graduate
Simone Watkins (Frisco, Texas) won the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:01.87 time. Newcomer
Leyanis Castillo (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) also competed, finishing fourth overall (1:05.91).
Graduate
Kailei Collins (Houston), junior
Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) and rookies
Mackenzie Robinson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and
Aiyana Gray-Williams (Winston-Salem, N.C.) teamed up in the 4x100 relay, earning silver with a 44.62 time.
Individually, Collins took second overall in the 100-meter dash with a 11.49 mark.
Pittman, Robinson and sophomores
Zoe Turner (Mableton, Ga.) and
Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburn, N.C.) represented Bison Nation in the 4x400 relay, producing a second-place time of 3:45.12.
Woodruff, Pittman and Robinson found success in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 24.03 (third), 24.13 (fourth) and 24.60 (eighth), respectively.
Liberty won the 2024 Bob Davidson Team Challenge, tallying 120 points while edging out High Point (114 points).
HU is set to compete in a trio of events next weekend: Texas Relays (March 27-30); Raleigh Relays (March 28-30) and Towson Invitational (March 29).
