HIGH POINT, N.C. (March 23, 2024) – Howard University men's track & field team competed in the Bob Davidson Team Challenge, hosted by High Point University, where they earned third place overall.
Overall, the Bison recorded 111 points with a pair of first-place finishes.
Graduate
Samuel Bennett (Langdon Hill, United Kingdom) led the way, winning the 110-meter hurdle with a 13.82 mark. Senior
Zachary Hawkins (Lithonia, Ga.), fifth-year Bison
Darian Clyburn (Louisville), senior
Noah Langford (Portsmouth, Va.) and freshman
Otto Laing (Freeport, Bahamas) also took part, finishing third (13.90), fourth (13.90), fifth (14.22) and eighth (14.40), respectively.
Langford represented HU in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 53.01 (second place).
Bennett, Hawkins, Laing and Langford ran the 4x100 together, earning the bronze medal with a 40.87 time.
Senior
Ezekiel Hawkins (Lithonia, Ga.) and junior
Amon-Ra Watkins (Bronx, N.Y.) placed second (5437 points) and third (4966 points), respectively, in the decathlon.
In the field, juniors
Kyle Fisher (Duluth, Ga.) and
Sean Wray (Stafford, Va.) took part in the long jump where they earned first (7.35 meters) and second (7.22 meters), respectively. The Bison duo also competed in the triple jump, landing second (14.74 meters) and sixth (14.09 meters), respectively, in the event.
High Point won the 2024 Bob Davidson Team Challenge with 173 points, followed by Arkon (138 points).
HU is set to compete in a trio of events next weekend: Texas Relays (March 27-30); Raleigh Relays (March 28-30) and Towson Invitational (March 29).
