CARY, N.C. (March 22, 2024) – Howard University men's tennis team fell in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opener to Norfolk State (NSU), 6-1, at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
HU (3-7, 0-1 MEAC) took the early match lead, winning two-out-of-three in doubles play.
Senior
Justin Cadeau (West Orange, N.J.) and freshman
Michael Major, Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas) served as the squad's top doubles team where they took down the Spartans' Deniz Okyay and Boris Lunin, 6-3.
Juniors
Marcel Dawson (Columbus, Ga.) and
Daniel Dunac (Washington) defeated NSU's Antoni Pankowski and Jakub Solarski, 6-2.
Despite the match lead, HU was unable to keep the momentum going into singles competition.
Major competed in the No. 2 slot, falling in three sets to Solarski (6-7, 6-3, 0-1 [4-10]).
Norfolk State won the other five singles matches in straight sets.
Saturday (March 23), Howard faces reigning MEAC Champion South Carolina State. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
