BALTIMORE (March 13, 2024) – Howard University men's tennis team grabbed a hard-fought road win at Loyola (Md.), outlasting the Greyhounds, 4-3, in Baltimore.
HU took the early match lead, winning two-out-of-three in doubles play.
All-MEAC selection junior
Marcel Dawson (Columbus, Ga.) and rookie
Kendrick Lash (Winston-Salem, N.C.) served as the club's No. 2 doubles team, knocking off Loyola's (LU) Nick Lawliss and George Cavo, 6-3.
Seniors
Hassimiyou Dieng (Dakar, Senegal) and
Gabe Knowles (Allentown, Pa.) cruised past the Greyhounds' Matt Cardano and Cristian Pemueller, 6-2.
In singles play, Dieng dropped game one to LU's Ryan Boland, 3-6, but rebounded to win the next two games (6-4, 6-1).
Lash and fellow classmate
Michael Major, Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas) earned singles wins in straight sets.
HU (2-6) goes to the City of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia) to battle Saint Joseph's. Match time is slated for 11 a.m. at the SJU Tennis Complex.
