NORFOLK, Va. (February 2, 2024) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) unveiled its track and field weekly honors where Howard University fifth-year thrower
Erin Hatcher (Silver Spring, Md.) earned the league's Women's Field Athlete of the Week. The announcement came Wednesday (Jan. 31).
In the weight throw, Hatcher finished ninth overall at the 2024 Robert Comstock Cardinal Classic, hosted by Catholic University, tossing a MEAC-best 18.38 meters, which ranks seventh in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Juniors
Wendesen King (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and
Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) received honorable mention for their efforts in the mile run and 200-meter dash, respectively.
Norfolk State (NSU) junior Mercyline Kimaiyo was selected MEAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
For the men, Coppin State senior Carl Drakes was claimed MEAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week while NSU senior Isaac Haywood was named Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
Today (Feb. 2), Howard goes to Cambridge, Mass., for the Crimson Elite, hosted by Harvard University. The following day (Feb. 3), HU competes in the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational, hosted by Boston University.
