WASHINGTON (February 28, 2024) – La Salle scored seven goals in the first quarter and never looked back, downing the Howard University women's lacrosse team, 21-4, at Greene Stadium.
La Salle (1-2) scored the first seven goals of the contest until fifth-year Bison
Quai Skeete-Ridley (New Carrolton, Md.) got HU on the board before the first quarter ended, 7-1.
In the second, the Explorers added six more scores, but sophomore
Tea Vasquez (Oakland, Calif.) and rookie
Gabrielle Nelson (Cincinnati) tallied a pair of goals before halftime, 13-3.
After intermission, Nelson scored another goal, but La Salle extended its advantage with five more goals, taking a commanding 18-4 lead into the final frame.
La Salle added three insurance goals in the fourth to down the Bison, 21-4.
Nelson produced filled the stat sheet with six draw controls, five ground balls and a goal. Junior defender
Maya Rhymes (Coatesville, Pa.) chipped in six ground balls, five draw controls and an assist in the loss.
On March 2, Howard hosts Stonehill College in its conference opener. Match time is slated for noon at Greene Stadium.
