WASHINGTON (February 25, 2024) – Howard University women's lacrosse team trailed early and were unable to recover, falling to Eastern Michigan (EMU), 15-6, at Greene Stadium.
EMU (1-2) pounced on the Bison early, taking a quick 5-0 advantage after one.
Eastern Michigan's momentum continued into the second, tallying the first four goals until newcomer
Layla Collins (Houston) ended HU's scoring drought with a pair of goals, 9-2. EMU responded with two more scores before intermission, 11-2.
Sophomore
Chase Coleman opened the second half with a goal to cut the deficit to eight, 11-3, but Eagles answered with four unanswered goals and took a commanding 15-3 advantage after three.
HU outscored EMU in the fourth, 2-1, thanks to goals from Coleman and second-year Bison
Tea Vasquez (Oakland, Calif.).
Junior
Maya Rhymes (Coatesville, Pa.) and freshman
Gabrielle Nelson (Cincinnati) collected three draw controls each while sophomore
Kendall Barker (Columbus, Ohio) scooped up four ground balls.
Defensively, junior goalie
Logan Ford (Charlotte, N.C.) produced eight saves in the loss.
For EMU, they earned its first program win with eight Eagles recording a goal.
HU continues to homestand Wednesday (Feb. 28) against La Salle. Match time is slated for 3 p.m. at Greene Stadium.
