UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (February 23, 2024) – Howard University women's tennis team dropped a close bout to crosstown rival Georgetown (GU), 4-3, at Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro, Md.
Despite the setback, rookie
Imani Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y.) extended her singles win streak to four after a straight set sweep over the Hoyas' Morgan Coburn (6-2, 6-3).
All-MEAC selection junior
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) served as the club's top singles player, defeating Georgetown's Avantika Willy in a tightly, contested match (7-6, 7-6).
Fellow classmate
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) topped GU's Paige Gilbert in two sets (6-0, 6-3).
The difference came in doubles competition where Georgetown grabbed a pair of contests to take a 1-0 match advantage going into singles play.
Third-year Bison
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) and sophomore
Selah Stibbins (Minneapolis) were deadlocked with the Hoya's Olivia Ashton and Tatiana Zelenko, 4-4, but ruled unfinished.
Howard (2-6) goes to the City of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia) to face Temple. Match time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
